Proposals are generally used to request deposits from clients before goods are ordered. Because proposals don't create accounting transactions, they can be used for additional purposes, such as to request retainers, for tear sheets, progress billing and others. The title "Proposal" is editable and can be changed to meet your preference. It's common to see them titled "Quote", "Proforma", "Proforma Invoice", or "Price Quote".
